Baltimore Mural Program

The Baltimore Mural Program has produced more than 250 murals across the city, creating an outdoor public museum for the enjoyment of the people of Baltimore. We work with local mural artists who have experience working with communities.

  • Costs for each mural are based on the size of the wall, the cost of scaffolding, if necessary, paint and paint supplies, and the artist’s fee.  ($6,000 – $20,000)
  • All of our new murals are treated with an anti-graffitti coating that makes the removal of graffiti simple.

The Baltimore Mural Program was created in 1975 to make Baltimore neighborhoods more attractive, instill a sense of pride, provide employment for local artists in their own field, combat graffiti in neighborhoods, and engage young people in the beautification of their own communities. Working with the artists, neighborhood groups/associations and funding sources, the Baltimore Office of Promotion and The Arts (BOPA) coordinates and directs this ongoing program.

The Baltimore Mural Program maintains a mural artist registry for organizations, business owners, and city residents interested in hiring a mural artist for private commissions. To access the artist registry, contact rpatterson@promotionandarts.com.

The mural program is not currently accepting new artist applications for the registry, but we anticipate reopening the applications in Spring 2017.

Artists interested in applying for upcoming public art, mural art, and teaching artist opportunities through our office can find our calls for artists here.
